A blog dedicated to the pursuit futuristic living. I want to live in the future. You want to live in the future. But what exactly is that future going to be, and how can we go about making it happen? It is a subject which can induce a great deal of ADD. The future, after all, means a great number of things to many people. The most played out and obvious example is of course the flying car of our memetic nightmares.
To some of us, the future is Star Trek - where everyone and everything looks good, but in an un-intimidating way, and people only have to worry about important stuff like space wars and exploration. Obviously the space traveling and sleeping with aliens thing isn't on any of our immediate horizons, but I think that looking-good and living-post-scarcity might be closer than a lot of us think.
For other people maybe the future is more like a William Gibson novel, where increasingly powerful and seamless technology enables us to accomplish things both great and terrible than ever before. This is obviously something that is already happening, and that we should be trying our damnedest to get out ahead of so that we can shape it to it's most desirable course.
Still other people harbor hope for an entirely different future, one in which humanity occupies an entirely less central, or at least less intrusive role in the global scheme. Not that these people necessarily wish ill upon their species, but I think that there is a sincere belief there that less can be more. I think that this too, will form an important part of our future.
Here on this blog, I will do my best to gather and promote information pertinent to all of these different visions, and I hope to foster a great deal of discussion about all of them.
It's like Ghandi said: "you must rant about the change you wish to see in the world."
